Play Your Part....

Sinead O'Connor speaks out in regards to Trayvon Martin and how we as African Americans are not doing enough and are looked down upon in the society.  Sinead doesn’t understand why the African-American race is looked down upon when according to her; everyone can be traced back to an African American woman. Sinead speaks a lot of truth in her article. Sinead doesn’t understand why the African American race is frowned upon. She mentions great artists and leaders that have passed on such as Nina Simone, Harriet Tubman, Bob Marley, Curtis Mayfield and many others.  Keep in mind that Sinead is not racist but she states some valid facts that make you think.

Sinead talks about the African American youth and how they are killing each other every day.  She makes it clear that we need not to be timid in the way support our culture. Sinead believes that rap music can be good but I has a bad influence and sends out false messages that are embedded in to the minds of our children. Sinead believes that most of the music that was made in the 60’s and 70’s have been forgotten and over shadowed by music that lacks meaning.

Sinead invites the African American people to re-visit their lineage and history to restore our minds to what our forefathers and mothers fought for. She mentions that Jay-Z and Kanye West are too quiet about the issues that have been presented recently in regards to Trayvon Martin. Celebrities need to speak out about issues like this since they have had such a great influence in the music industry down through the years. She mentioned that most of the black artists had studios in the basement of a building and they settled for that and never spoke up.  Sinead believes that African Americans have been mistreated in the music industry for years and everyone knew it then and know it now.

Sinead believes that African Americans need to stand up for Trayvon Martin and demand that George Zimmerman be arrested.  She believes that the longer George Zimmerman stays out and the street, the worse the country looks.  She believes that all Americans of all races should demand his arrest. Sinead believes that racism is not acceptable.

Sinead commenting on this area makes you think. I believe that we should fight for justice to the very end. I believe that George Zimmerman should get arrested, but I also believe that we as people need to be consistent and fight all the time for different things that we believe in.  Trayvon Martin has raised awareness across the world. When this case is closed will we continue to fight or will we go back to our own self-centered lives until the next global issue comes up.  If we don’t stand for something, we will fall for everything.
